- Scammers targeted victims through a cryptocurrency scheme involving $120,000, while another resident lost $20,000 after investing in an unregistered company.
- Additional losses included $16,500 from a fake email payment request, $9,000 in a credit card phone scam , and more than $7,000 after granting remote computer access.
- The Oceanside RCMP now offers fraud prevention presentations to groups and maintains public business hours at their detachment located at 421 Pym Street North.
- Because scammers continue to target the Parksville Qualicum Beach area, residents should call 911 if they witness a crime in progress.
