Vancouver Goldeneyes pick American Caroline Harvey 1st overall in PWHL draft
Harvey adds immediate offense after Vancouver finished sixth in its inaugural season.
On Wednesday, the Vancouver Goldeneyes selected defender Caroline Harvey with the first overall pick in the PWHL Draft held at the Fox Theatre in Detroit.
The 23-year-old Wisconsin defender is one of the sport's most accomplished players, named the International Ice Hockey Federation's female player of the year and tournament MVP at the Milan Cortina Games.
Following the top selection, the Seattle Torrent chose Minnesota Golden Gophers forward Abbey Murphy second overall, while PWHL Las Vegas selected Penn State forward Tessa Janecke with the third pick.
Harvey joins a Vancouver blue line featuring defender of the year finalist Sophie Jaques and forward Sarah Nurse, adding immediate offense to a team that finished sixth in its inaugural season.
Held in one of the league's four new markets, the event highlighted the PWHL's continued expansion as the PWHL Detroit team prepares for its inaugural season.
