Utz potato chips sold nationwide recalled over salmonella risk
On Monday, Utz Quality Foods, LLC announced a voluntary recall of specific Zapp's and Dirty brand potato chips due to potential Salmonella contamination in the seasoning powder used on affected batches.
California Dairies recently recalled its dry milk powder due to Salmonella risks, and Utz received notification that this ingredient, used in the chip seasonings, may be contaminated.
Recalled items include 1.5-ounce Zapp's Bayou Blackened Ranch and 2-ounce Dirty Salt and Vinegar bags with best-by dates spanning July and August 2026.
Although impacted seasoning batches tested negative before use, Utz is recalling products "out of an abundance of caution," according to the FDA. No illnesses have been reported.
Consumers should discard any recalled chips immediately rather than eat them. Salmonella symptoms—fever, diarrhea, and abdominal pain—typically develop within 72 hours of exposure.
