US targets Palestine Action in counterterrorism effort against 'far-left' groups
- On Wednesday, the United States imposed terrorism sanctions on the Italy-based Autistici/Inventati Collective, designating it a "Specially Designated Global Terrorist" for providing digital tools to extremists. The group is now barred from transactions with anyone in the United States.
- The State Department said this "extremist group" provides "digital infrastructure for violent Antifa cells and other far-left militants across the world." It hosts roughly 16,000 mailboxes and 10,000 "blogs" used to disseminate tactical manuals and communiques about violent attacks.
- Treasury also sanctioned the British organization Palestine Action and the pro-Palestinian network Masar Badil for allegedly supporting terrorism. The announcement charged anti-abortion extremist group "Jane's Revenge" with using the collective's network for illicit operations.
- Secretary Marco Rubio stated there will be "no refuge for violent extremists who wage war on our civilization." Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent warned that far-left extremists "should be on notice: We will bring the full weight of our economic tools to bear."
- These sanctions align with President Donald Trump's focus on combating leftist political violence as a national security priority. His administration designated four European groups as terrorist organizations and successfully prosecuted individuals, including one sentenced to 19 years for attempted bombing.
