US Olympian Caroline Harvey earns latest accolade in being voted IIHF female player of the year
Harvey received more than 77% of the vote after winning Olympic gold, tournament MVP honors and a record 64-point season at Wisconsin, the IIHF said.
On Wednesday, the International Ice Hockey Federation named Caroline Harvey its female player of the year after she received more than 77% of the total votes, the IIHF said.
Harvey's recognition follows her performance at the Milan Cortina Games, where she won Olympic gold and was named tournament MVP, finishing tied for the most points with two goals and seven assists.
Winning her third NCAA championship, Harvey also claimed the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award and set a single-season school record at Wisconsin with 64 points as a defender.
Harvey is expected to be selected with the first pick in the PWHL draft being held in Detroit on Wednesday, capping an unprecedented year of recognition.
Voting results show Switzerland forward Alina Muller secured 9.1% of votes, while American Laila Edwards and Canadian Marie-Philip Poulin tied for third with 4.5%; Harvey joins Hilary Knight as the second American to win the IIHF honor.
