Trump: China has committed to withholding military equipment from Iran
Trump said Xi offered to help on Iran and agreed China should not let Tehran get a nuclear weapon.
- On Friday, President Donald Trump concluded his three-day trip to China after talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping, declaring Iran must either negotiate a deal or face "annihilation."
- While China buys nearly 90 per cent of oil from Iran, Xi offered to help reopen the Strait of Hormuz, telling Trump: "If I can be of any help whatsoever, I would like to help."
- Trump suggested China agreed to order 200 Boeing jets, though shares fell more than 4% following the comments; separately, Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman General Dan Caine claimed the US could neutralize Kharg Island in four or five minutes.
- During an opulent banquet in the Great Hall of the People, American business figures including Elon Musk and Apple's Tim Cook joined the leaders, as Trump praised Xi as a "warm person" who is "all business."
- Highlighting his personal rapport with Xi, Trump stated, "We do great with China," while confirming Beijing would continue purchasing oil from Iran, which the President indicated he did not challenge during the summit.
