- Authorities found that endorsement payments received by certain celebrities were funneled into purchasing assets identified as 'proceeds of crime' under anti-money laundering regulations, with asset seizures amounting to crores anticipated during the investigation.
- This ongoing investigation is part of a wider government effort to clamp down on unlawful online gambling sites and the well-known individuals endorsing them, within the context of India’s $100 billion online betting industry and over 1,500 government orders issued since 2022 to block such websites.
