Bournemouth Begins European Campaign Against Real Sociedad, Man City Meets Norwich in League Cup
Bournemouth enter Europe for the first time after a sixth-place Premier League finish secured their qualification.
On Thursday, Bournemouth begins its first European campaign by visiting Real Sociedad in the UEFA Europa League, marking a historic milestone for the English Premier League club following their 6th place finish last season.
A dramatic turnaround last season, sparked by a 95th-minute winner against Tottenham, propelled The Cherries to an unbeaten run that secured 6th place in the Premier League and European qualification.
Club icon Steve Fletcher, who has served Bournemouth since 1992, admitted the debut will be emotional. "There will be a lot of emotion when we play," Fletcher said.
Captain Adam Smith emphasized staying focused as Bournemouth seeks to overcome a winless start to the current campaign. Smith said: "We need to stay humble and concentrate on each game."
Elsewhere in Europe, Sunderland recently won its first continental match since 1973, while the opening round of matches is split across two days, with other English clubs also launching their campaigns.
