UPDATE: Benahavis Wildfire Still Active

Crews used aircraft and heavy machinery as officials said 212 emergency workers helped contain the blaze and lifted the town lockdown.

  • On Monday, the Andalusian regional government declared the Benahavis wildfire stabilized and downgraded the emergency to level 0. Residents of three housing estates were permitted to return home at 7:30pm after the precautionary evacuation was lifted.
  • The fire ignited Sunday afternoon near Ermita del Rosario along the A-7175, spreading rapidly through steep terrain fueled by winds of 30 km/h with gusts reaching 50. Emergency crews worked overnight to protect residential areas from the advancing flames.
  • Three people were injured, including a 78-year-old man who suffered burns and was transferred to the burn unit at Hospital Universitario Virgen del Rocio in Seville. Emergency personnel deployed 212 staff to combat the 378 hectares affected.
  • Regional minister Antonio Sanz announced the lockdown lift Monday morning, crediting "good work overnight" for making it possible to restore access to central Benahavis. Command operations were coordinated from the Andalusian Emergency Group headquarters.
  • Emergency crews remain on-site to monitor hot spots, particularly in the north-west near the area affected by the 2022 Pujerra fire. Authorities continue issuing instructions through 112 Andalucia and Plan Infoca as operations remain active.
