The Lod District Court handed down severe sentences to the seven convicted of throwing stones and thereby causing the death of the late Yigal Yehoshua. The court determined that the offenses were particularly serious in that they were committed during the height of Operation "Guardian of the Walls," under the circumstances of an act of terrorism, and with a national-racist motive.
The court sentenced the defendants to up to 14 years in prison, along with compensation of over 900,000 shekels to Yehoshua's family. The judges' decision stated that the motive for the action was to harm Jews wherever they were, in light of the Jewish riots in the city of Lod. Yehoshua's family will appeal the sentence
