LONDON: UN member states rallied in support of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees on Thursday. The United Nations said that UNRWA had no alternative, but the closure of the Agency ' s facilities and the curtailment of food programme assistance in the West Bank revealed a deeper crisis: a protection network was shrinking while refugees ' need for education, health and food was growing.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated that UNRWA is facing major challenges and a financial crisis, and called on member states to take immediate action. Guterres emphasized that the current situation is unsustainable and that regional stability is at risk.
