On Friday, Mizzou volleyball opened its 2026 season at the Mizzou Invitational, sweeping Western Illinois and Towson in back-to-back matches at the Hearnes Center.
Defensive performance defined the day, as the Tigers held Western Illinois to a.100 hitting percentage and Towson to.190, establishing an early-season foundation.
Freshman Eva Smith impressed with a.750 hitting percentage, while outside hitter Ceylin Kuyan recorded 14 kills in her collegiate debut, earning praise from coach Dawn Sullivan.
The nightcap against Towson proved more defensive than the opener, with Eva Smith and Maca Lobaglio each recording five blocks to secure the sweep.
Mizzou faces Idaho at 6 p.m. Saturday in the Hearnes Center, with setter Nina Mandovic continuing to direct the Tigers' offensive attack following Friday's strong debut.
