Union Pacific plans to submit application to acquire Norfolk Southern by Dec. 16

Union Pacific plans to submit its application to the Surface Transportation Board to acquire Norfolk Southern Corp. by Dec. 16, CEO Jim Vena told an investors conference this week. His comments came as UP competitor BNSF was submitting letters from trade groups opposing the deal, citing what they call commitments UP made in previous acquisitions that it has not lived up to.
