Abhijeet Dipke Targets JP Nadda over Talks with ‘Reservation Hatao’ Team, Seeks Clarity: ‘What Does PM Have to Say’
Nadda said the talks were cordial and that the government and activists will meet again on September 7 to continue discussions on reservation reform.
On Thursday, Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda met with a delegation from the Reservation Hatao Andolan to discuss demands following their August 21 protest at Jantar Mantar against caste-based reservation.
Mobilized via social media with more than 5 million Instagram followers, the movement advocates for state assistance based on economic hardship rather than caste and seeks a comprehensive review of the existing reservation structure.
Harsh Dubey, Ran Bahadur Singh Chauhan, and Mrityunjay Pathak presented their case during the "cordial" meeting, having previously consulted with Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak in Lucknow.
Both sides agreed to continue talks scheduled for September 7, though protesters warned they would organize larger demonstrations at Jantar Mantar if their demands remain unaddressed.
The BJP considers addressing upper-caste concerns a priority, as these communities constitute over 20% of Uttar Pradesh's electorate; sources warn even a 2-3% shift could damage electoral prospects.
