As land fighting intensified on the west coast between Yemeni and Houthi government forces, thousands of families fled to other governorates and regions, including Ma ' arib. Hundreds of families sought refuge in the governorate, although it was one of the hot fronts.
At least 154 people have died in recent days in Yemen, in the fighting between the Houthis and the loyalist forces supported by Saudi Arabia. Violence is causing more and more people to flee to the country and abroad. More than 130,000 people have already been displaced since the beginning of the month, but this figure may reach 230,000, according to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
About 230,000 displaced people in Yemen and another 10,000 seeking refuge in Djibouti are expected to need humanitarian assistance in the coming months, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) announced today.
To date, more than 130,000 have been displaced within the country and around 3,000 others have fled to Djibouti following the resumption of fighting.
