The trial of Victory Party leader Ümit Özdağ, who is being prosecuted on charges of "threat" following a complaint by former Welfare Party MP Şevki Yılmaz, has been adjourned until November 4th. The court considered that the nature of the charge could be changed to "insult."
Victory Party leader Ümit Özdağ stated in the fourth hearing of the threat case opened upon the complaint of Şevki Yılmaz, held in Kocaeli, that his words did not contain any threats.
Ümit Özdağ went to court because of Shevki Yılmaz's response to Shevki Yılmaz's words “I curse the orphans who drove the Ottoman Empire”, “I hope we meet, I'll show you who the orphan is”. Özdağ said that what he was going to show was a document, not violence.
Ümit Özdağ, leader of the Victory Party, who reacted to Şevki Yılmaz's insult to Atatürk, appeared before the judge. In the case where the prosecutor requested a sentence, the court, stating that the crime of "threat" could be transformed into "insult," adjourned the hearing to November 4th.
