- Umahi attributed the road's deterioration to a concessionaire that removed more than 30 km of asphalt without completing rehabilitation work, saying, 'This concessionaire came and removed over 30 km of the asphalt and threw it away and left.'
- Speaking on Channels Television on Wednesday, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications Sunday Dare blamed the contractor for the failure and said the government demanded immediate action from the project handler.
- The minister planned a 'robust engagement' with independent engineers, the concessionaire, and the Edo State Government to determine steps for addressing the worsening condition of the highway.
- Assuring Nigerians, Umahi noted the Benin-Asaba incident is an isolated case, stating that several other Federal Government road projects are progressing successfully without similar complaints.
