Russia damages bridge in southern Ukraine crucial for grain exports, railway says
Ukraine says more than 500 locomotives have been damaged or destroyed since Russia’s invasion, and it is seeking compatible replacements and funding.

- A Russian strike on railway infrastructure in Volyn Oblast overnight directly hit another locomotive, marking the latest attack near the border with Poland as Moscow intensifies targeting of civilian transport networks.
- More than half of those losses occurred this year, with over 250 locomotives reportedly damaged or destroyed in 2026 alone, as Russian attacks increasingly reach deep logistics infrastructure in western Ukraine.
- Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk warned on September 10 that Ukrainian crossings with Poland could come under attack, following recent Russian strikes on border crossings with Moldova and Romania.
- Sybiha urged partners to provide funding and locomotives compatible with the 1,520 mm track gauge, stating, "To ensure that this vital artery continues to function, Ukraine urgently needs a replacement.

Russia damages bridge in southern Ukraine crucial for grain exports, railway says
Russia has damaged a bridge in the Odesa region, significantly limiting Ukraine's ability to transport grain to its Danube river ports, Ukrainian state railway operator Ukrzaliznytsia said on Thursday.
<p>Russian strike on the railway: Berestyn station damaged, traffic of the ring train is restricted in Kyiv Due to Russian strikes, Berestyn station and infrastructure in Kiev were damaged. Individual trains are delayed up to eight hours or travel to Detour.</p>
During the night, Russian troops attacked the railway infrastructure in Kharkivshkin and hit Berestin Station, damaging the station building.
At night there were again heavy Russian attacks near the center of Kiev with Zirkon-Hyperschall rockets – and again and again there are targeted strikes against the infrastructure. WORLD reporter Steffen Schwarzkopf reports.
Since the start of the Russo-Ukrainian war, Ukraine has lost more than 500 locomotives due to Russian attacks.
