UK temperature seen breaking June record as heatwave spreads
The Met Office said severe impacts are likely as temperatures in Scotland could reach 32C and red warnings cover parts of southern England.
The Met Office issued red heat warnings on Monday as a Europe-originating heatwave reached the UK, with parts of Scotland expected to soar above 30C this week.
This heatwave echoes patterns from July 2022, when the UK recorded its hottest day on record at 34.8C, prompting authorities to urge safety as temperatures approach those historic peaks.
Dumfries is expected to reach 32C on Thursday, June 25, while Moffat, Dalbeattie, and Thornhill will likely hit 31C according to the Met Office forecast.
Met Office deputy chief forecaster Mark Sidaway warned of "severe and significant impacts" from the heatwave, with "extreme heat" alerts suggesting potential power and essential service disruptions for Brits.
Relief is expected by Friday, June 26, when conditions will drop to around 20C, though the Met Office notes such intense heatwaves are becoming "more frequent in our future climate.
