UAB Needs the 4th Quarter to Pull Away From Samford in 33-14 Victory
Jonah Delange kicked four field goals and UAB intercepted Samford three times in a win sealed by a 17-point fourth quarter.
On Saturday, UAB defeated Samford 33-14 behind kicker Jonah Delange's four field goals and a defense that recorded three interceptions.
UAB jumped ahead early with Delange's 44-yard field goal, then EJ Reid scored on a 36-yard touchdown run before Samford's Jalen Nelson returned a fumble 95 yards for a touchdown.
The Blazers pulled away in the fourth quarter as Bam McReynolds scored on a 28-yard touchdown run and Ryder Burton connected with CJ Smith for a 31-yard touchdown pass.
Samford quarterback Gabarri Johnson threw for 140 yards and a touchdown, but UAB defenders Ike Esonwune, Jeremiah Jordan, and Delvon Gulley each recorded interceptions to contain the Bulldogs.
UAB travels to Memphis on Saturday to face an American Conference opponent, while Samford returns to Championship Subdivision play against Southern Conference rival Chattanooga on Saturday.
