A Major Change Atop UAB Athletics, with Andy Kennedy Stepping in as Interim AD
The university begins a national search after Mark Ingram leaves following 11 years, while Andy Kennedy takes over on an interim basis.
UAB announced Tuesday that athletics director Mark Ingram is leaving after 11 years. Men's basketball coach Andy Kennedy will serve as interim athletics director during the national search for Ingram's replacement.
Ingram took over UAB Athletics in 2015, overseeing the revival of the football program and the move to the American Conference. UAB President Ray L. Watts credited him with major facility investments and significant growth during his tenure.
Leading the Blazers to two NCAA Tournament berths, Kennedy has won at least 20 games each season since taking over as men's basketball coach. He is widely respected within UAB Athletics for his commitment to competitive excellence and the community.
University leadership believes the change positions the department for growth as college athletics continues to transform. Watts said, "We are excited about the future and focused on supporting our student-athletes, coaches and fans as we continue to build on UAB's momentum."
Ingram expressed pride in his tenure, stating, "I leave with tremendous pride in what we accomplished together." He wished everyone connected with UAB Athletics great success in the future.
