Ty Gibbs Holds on to Win NASCAR Cup Series Race at Iowa Speedway
Gibbs won by 0.253 seconds after a two-tire stop gave him track position over Christopher Bell in the final laps, officials said.
On Sunday, Ty Gibbs won the Iowa Corn 350 at Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa, securing his second NASCAR Cup Series victory with a strategic two-tire pit stop in the race's final laps.
Joe Gibbs Racing teammates battled for position after pitting with 60 laps remaining; Christopher Bell took four tires while Gibbs' crew chose two, handing the 23-year-old the lead he held to win by 0.253 seconds.
Gibbs overcame an early pit road issue that dropped him to 28th place, while pole-sitter Ryan Blaney finished third after leading a race-high 129 laps at the 0.875-mile oval.
The victory marked Gibbs' second career win in 146 races, while Bell's winless streak extended to 30 races with his seventh runner-up finish this season.
Next, the NASCAR Cup Series moves to Richmond Raceway for the next event on Saturday night, continuing the season's schedule.
