Second Southern Georgian Bay OPP officer charged with sexual assault this week
The SIU says the officers face multiple sexual assault and breach-of-trust charges after separate complaints involving three women.
- On Tuesday, OPP Southern Georgian Bay officer Blake Hamilton was arrested and charged with two counts of sexual assault and two counts of breach of trust.
- Zahid Javed, another officer from the same detachment, was arrested on Monday and charged with three counts each of sexual assault and breach of trust.
- The Special Investigations Unit began its inquiry after the Ontario Provincial Police reported allegations on Feb 24, 2026, with alleged incidents spanning from Aug 2024 through late last year.
- Hamilton must appear before the Ontario Court at 605 Yonge in Midland on Sept 10, 2026, though none of the allegations have been tested in court.
- SIU director Joseph Martino stated there are "reasonable grounds" to believe an officer "committed criminal offences," though the agency will not provide further comment while the matter is before the courts.
