Two more people arrested over 'infamous' illegal dump site in Kidlington
Two Surrey men were detained as investigators said six arrests have now been made in the illegal dumping probe and conditional bail was granted.
- On Wednesday, two men from Surrey were arrested as part of an investigation into a major illegal waste dump in Kidlington, bringing the total number of arrests to six.
- The illegal site spanned 150m long and 20ft high, containing approximately 21,000 tonnes of commercial and household rubbish, including tyres and shredded plastic covering an 8,000sq metre area.
- Led by the Environment Agency with support from Surrey Police and the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit, the investigation culminated in last month's cleanup removing 22,105 tonnes of waste.
- Colin Chiverton, Area Environment Manager for the Thames at the Environment Agency, said the arrests are "another vital step in collecting new evidence and delivering justice for the residents of Kidlington."
- Environment Secretary Dame Angela Eagle stated that officials are taking "decisive action" against waste crime by deploying frontline officers and drones to catch criminal gangs in the act.
