Two Arrested over Running of City Hospital Mortuary Services
On Monday, Nottinghamshire Police arrested two men, 55 and 59, on suspicion of misconduct in a public office regarding mortuary operating practices at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.
Operation Perth investigators discovered breaches of the Human Tissue Act while probing maternity failings at the trust, focusing on management and operating practices of the mortuary services.
Independent midwife Donna Ockenden leads a maternity review involving around 2,500 families and more than 800 staff members, which runs alongside the criminal investigation into mortuary practices.
Deputy Chief Constable Rob Griffin stated, "We recognise this will be particularly distressing for affected families who are part of Operation Perth." Police are contacting directly impacted families.
Regulators including the General Medical Council and Nursing and Midwifery Council are investigating allegations against individual staff as the major Ockenden maternity report arrives Wednesday.
