The presidents of the European Commission and the European Parliament, Ursula von der Leyen and Roberta Metzola, welcomed today in separate messages the release of political prisoners in Belarus, including Ales Bialjacki and Maria Kolesnikova.
Two Lithuanian citizens who had been illegally detained in Belarus since 2024 were released on Saturday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced. It is indicated that the Lithuanian citizens who had been detained in Belarus for more than a year on trumped-up charges are now safe and are receiving medical and other necessary assistance.
Among the political prisoners released by Belarus after negotiations with the United States are two Lithuanian citizens who spent more than a year behind bars.
