The proposal to regulate foreign digital accommodation platforms has passed the commission. Following TÜRSAB's objection regarding "unfair competition," the Ministry announced the details of the regulation. The regulation introduces a 17% commission limit, a 5 million lira permit requirement, and compliance with Turkish law.
A bill requiring foreign digital accommodation platforms such as Booking, Expedia, and Airbnb to obtain licenses, appoint representatives, and pay tourism tax and digital services tax in order to operate in Turkey has been approved by the Turkish Grand National Assembly committee. If the bill becomes law, the new regulations will come into effect on January 1, 2027.
New rules are being introduced for the operations of foreign digital accommodation platforms in Türkiye. With the proposal accepted by the commission, platforms will be required to obtain permission from the Ministry, the permission fee will be 5 million Turkish Lira, and the amount that can be charged on domestic sales cannot exceed 17 percent.
