Lorcan Tucker Appointed Ireland T20I Captain Ahead of India Series
The wicketkeeper-batter has 159 Ireland caps and replaces Paul Stirling, who stepped down as T20I captain in March.
On Monday, the Ireland Cricket Board appointed Lorcan Tucker as the new men's T20I captain, tasking him to lead the squad against India at Stormont, Belfast, on Friday, June 26, and Sunday, June 28.
National selector Andrew White noted the team is "hampered by injury at present, with at least five first-team regulars missing due to injury," forcing significant squad changes.
White added, "one player's misfortune is another player's opportunity," naming three uncapped players—Matthew Hollard, Jai Moondra, and Reuben Wilson—in the squad of 14.
Calling the captaincy "a great privilege," Tucker said, "India are an absolute powerhouse when it comes to T20 cricket," and he relishes measuring Ireland against them early in the new cycle.
Targeting the 2028 T20 World Cup, Tucker aims to develop young players while emphasizing his "feeling of responsibility" to the organization and captains who preceded him.
