Taiwan's stock market broke through the 47,000-point mark at the opening on the 22nd. With the semiconductor, memory, and printed circuit board sectors all rising, the index surged by more than 1,400 points at one point during the day, and finally closed at 47,741.51 points, up 1,276.31 points. This was the eighth largest single-day gain in history, and the closing index also set a new record. The trading volume reached NT$1.44 trillion.
