'Great Deal of Scepticism' as Trump Launches Own TV Channel
The 24/7 livestream follows the White House ban on several news outlets and comes as major networks suspend pooled coverage.
- On Monday, the White House launched 'Trump TV,' a 24/7 YouTube-hosted stream featuring presidential announcements and past moments. Digital strategy head Kaelan Dorr described the channel as showing the 'Administration's greatest hits, unfiltered.'
- President Donald Trump banned CNN, MS NOW, and Politico from the White House press pool on Friday, citing negative coverage. The three outlets subsequently sued the Administration on free speech grounds.
- In solidarity against the ban, ABC, CBS, Fox, and NBC suspended television pool coverage on Monday. Their joint statement said, 'No Administration should restrict a news organization because it objects to its reporting.'
- California Governor Gavin Newsom and Democratic U.S. Senator for Arizona Mark Kelly condemned the move as autocratic. Newsom accused the administration of launching 'state-run TV' to drown out facts about its failing performance.
- 'America cannot have state TV,' Weijia Jiang, CBS News senior White House correspondent, warned on Sunday. Jiang emphasized citizens need independent observers; government control of coverage threatens accountability.
