Trump says he is nominating Hung Cao to be Navy secretary
On Tuesday, President Donald Trump formally nominated acting Navy Secretary Hung Cao to serve as permanent Navy Secretary, announcing the decision on Truth Social.
Cao has served as acting secretary for four months after Navy Secretary John Phelan was dismissed following a troubled relationship with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
The nomination follows Monday's resignation of Army Secretary Dan Driscoll; Trump praised Cao's work, writing, "The Senate needs to confirm this Warfighter, ASAP."
Trump urged The Senate to act quickly, stating, "The Senate should confirm this warrior's appointment as soon as possible" to formalize Cao's permanent role.
Before this nomination, Cao represented the Navy at Senate Armed Services Committee hearings on the Defense Authorization Request and attended the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library opening in Medora this past July.
