‘A Good Gene Pool’: Trump Sings Sen. Darline Graham Praises During Myrtle Beach Rally
Security removed a heckler as Trump paused his remarks and later pledged support for the long-delayed I-73 project, officials said.
On Friday, President Donald Trump held a campaign rally at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center to support US Senator Darline Graham, urging South Carolina voters to elect her in Tuesday's GOP primary runoff.
Friday's speech was briefly interrupted when a protester stood up, prompting boos and chants of "USA" from the crowd; Trump remained unfazed, quipping that the demonstrator's "mom is voting for us."
Graham, appointed to complete her late brother Lindsey Graham's term, faces Rep. Ralph Norman in Tuesday's runoff after admitting during a televised debate that she is "not that informed" on national security.
Trump touted progress on the I-73 highway project, stating the federal government is prepared to fund it; Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce President Jimmy Gray confirmed significant recent movement toward completion.
The runoff winner will face Democrat Annie Andrews in November; Andrews, who won her primary in June, is focusing on reaching independents and center-right Republicans to build support for the general election.
