The court of the Anti-Corruption Unit denied the preventive detention requested by the Attorney General's Office (FGE) against the mayor of Guayaquil, Achilles Alvarez, and Ricardo Cevallos, both prosecuted for the offence of storage, transport, packaging, marketing or illegal distribution of petroleum products, in the case known as Triple A.
The Court of Criminal Guarantees of Guayas ruled on September 30, 2025 to deny the request for pretrial detention filed by the Prosecutor's Office against the mayor of Guayaquil, Achilles Alvarez, within the so-called Triple A case, which investigates alleged irregularities related to the marketing of subsidized fuels.
The court decided to maintain the precautionary measures in force for the mayor of Guayaquil, after the failure to appear before the authorities on September 1, in the context of the Triple A case.
