Trial date for suspect in Florida State mass shooting has been postponed until next October
Phoenix Ikner’s trial was delayed due to his original public defender’s conflict of interest and new defense team assignment, following the April 2025 shooting that killed two and injured six.
- On Wednesday, Circuit Judge Lance Neff moved the trial to start Oct. 19, 2026, almost a year after the initial Nov. 3 date, following a delay due to defense issues.
- Ikner's court-appointed public defender recently bowed out, citing a conflict of interest, and a new defense team was assigned.
- Investigators say the shooting on April 17 lasted three and four minutes, and Ikner allegedly used his stepmother's former service weapon, killing two people and injuring six others.
- Court records show Ikner pleaded not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder and seven counts of attempted first-degree murder.
- Prosecutors said they intend to seek the death penalty in the case against Florida State mass shooting suspect.
