Major Rail Disruption in South of England Following Radio Fault
Network Rail said the fault cut communications between drivers and signallers, with delays of up to 90 minutes and some cancellations.
A radio system fault disrupted train services across South England shortly before 9am on Thursday, affecting multiple operators and triggering warnings of major delays throughout the day.
Network Rail reported the fault affects radio communications between train drivers and signallers, impacting CrossCountry, Gatwick Express, Great Western Railway, London Overground, Southern, SWR, and Thameslink services.
SWR warned services may be cancelled or delayed by up to 90 minutes, while Southern confirmed disruptions on routes to London Victoria and its West Coastway line between Brighton and Portsmouth.
Passengers are advised to allow extra time and consider using Buses, with tickets accepted at no extra cost on Great Western Railway services and London Underground District line routes.
Network Rail expects major disruption until the end of the day, though officials do not yet have an ETA for when signalling communications will return to normal.
