Pakistan Military Personnel Killed in Helicopter Crash Near Muzaffarabad; Inquiry Ordered
Rescue teams reached the crash site as the military ordered a board of inquiry to determine the cause.
On Wednesday, a Pakistan Army Aviation Mi-17 helicopter crashed near Muzaffarabad in Pakistan-administered Kashmir, killing all personnel on board, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations .
Witnesses reported the helicopter crashed shortly after takeoff from a helipad during protests by the Joint Awami Action Committee, though the military suggested no link between the strike and the crash.
Rescue and recovery teams immediately reached the crash site as ambulances transported victims to a hospital, while the military announced a board of inquiry had been ordered to determine the cause of the accident.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep sorrow over the crash, while Field Marshal Asim Munir extended condolences to the families of those killed.
Such crashes are not uncommon in Pakistan; in September 2025, an army helicopter on a routine flight crashed in northern Pakistan, killing two pilots and three technicians on board.
