Body Found in North Yorkshire Following Search for Missing Woman
Police believe the body is Tracey Smith, 57, after a black Fiat Panda was found off the road during a search that lasted nearly four weeks.
North Yorkshire Police discovered a body inside a black Fiat Panda in undergrowth off the A172 at its junction with the A19 near the Cleveland Tontine; officers believe the deceased is missing Stokesley resident Tracey Smith.
Tracey Smith, 57, vanished on Friday, July 24, prompting a major search; police released images of her 10-plate Panda to help the public identify the vehicle during the four-week search.
On Tuesday, August 18, a member of the public spotted the car in the undergrowth; police said recovery took "longer than usual" due to the vehicle's precarious embankment location.
The road reopened after investigators examined the scene and recovered the vehicle. A spokesperson said, "Our thoughts are with Tracey's family and friends at this very sad time."
While formal identification is pending, officers are working to determine how the vehicle left the road. The force expressed gratitude to the public for their assistance throughout the search.
