Three containers housing Syrian agricultural workers caught fire, killing a pregnant mother and five children; three arrests made as investigation continues, officials said.
- A fire in the Kepez district of Antalya killed a 27-year-old pregnant Syrian woman and her five children on Thursday. Antalya Governor Hulusi Sahin confirmed the tragedy, stating, "Three containers caught fire, and we lost a mother and five children aged between four and nine."
- The blaze broke out in the Gaziler neighbourhood at around 1:30 am, destroying containers housing Syrian agricultural workers. Local leader Suleyman Kaplan confirmed the victims were a family of Syrian agricultural workers.
- Five others were injured in the blaze, including the children's father who remains in intensive care with life-threatening injuries. Anadolu reported that four injured individuals share the victims' family names, while the fifth is the business owner.
- Investigators are currently examining the cause and have arrested three people. Although the exact cause remains unclear, Sahin stated it appeared someone used a barbecue burner outside the containers without extinguishing it.
- The tragedy occurred during the three-day Bayram holiday marking the end of Ramadan. Local leader Kaplan stated residents had repeatedly requested a fire station, saying, "We urgently need a fire station.
