Towson Union Claims Apple Discriminated Employees, Tech Company "Strongly Disagrees"
The union says Apple let workers at two non-union stores transfer while forcing Towson employees to reapply for jobs.
The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers filed an unfair labor practice charge with the National Labor Relations Board today, alleging Apple discriminated against unionized employees at its Towson Town Center store.
Apple announced the closure of the Towson Town Center store on April 9, 2026, citing 'the departure of several retailers and declining conditions' at the mall, though the location was the first Apple retail store in the country to unionize in 2022.
IAM Union International President Brian Bryant stated Apple denied union-represented workers the same transfer opportunities provided to employees at two non-union stores, forcing Towson staff to reapply for positions like external candidates.
Apple responded that it 'strongly disagrees with the claims made' and will continue to abide by the collective bargaining agreement, stating it has no plans to open a new store within 50 miles of Towson.
Nearly 90 employees will be affected when the Towson Apple Store closes June 11, with IAM Local 4538 vice president Eric Brown warning there is 'no guarantee' workers will have viable transfer opportunities.
