TotalEnergies' offshore project in Suriname on track for first output in mid-2028
The $12 billion project has reached about 50% of planned investment and will be Suriname's first offshore oil development, officials said.
- On Saturday, French energy company TotalEnergies and its partners confirmed the $12 billion GranMorgu offshore project in Suriname remains on track to begin production in mid-2028, Staatsolie head Annand Jagesar said.
- TotalEnergies, Staatsolie, and APA Corp have already invested about 50% of planned capital for the development, which spans 1.4 million acres in Block 58, according to TotalEnergies Chairman Patrick Pouyanne.
- Workers are assembling subsea equipment at the Kuldipsingh Port Facility in Paramaribo, Suriname, where components manufactured in Malaysia will soon be installed to control oil and gas flow via underwater pipelines.
- Jagesar plans to expand production in Block 58, where TotalEnergies will drill four new exploratory wells next year, stating, "I dream of a second project, a second FPSO."
- More than 2.4 billion barrels of oil and 12.5 trillion cubic feet of gas have been discovered in Suriname, positioning the country to replicate Guyana's success with GranMorgu adjacent to Exxon Mobil's massive Stabroek block.
