Today in Germany: A Roundup of the Latest News on Monday
On Monday, Denmark's government announced plans to resubmit a stalled citizenship bill in the first half of 2027, granting citizenship to 2,055 people and their children.
Denmark's Immigration Minister Morten Bødskov told the Ritzau newswire the bill previously received support from the SVM government, Green Left Party, Social Liberal Party, Red Green Alliance, and the Alternative.
Before submission, Bødskov explained that applicants must undergo thorough investigation to ensure "all requirements, which are the strictest we have ever had, are complied with."
The proposed bill excludes children of applicants who turned 18 during the citizenship freeze, leaving them outside the new legislative framework.
Political pressure regarding Denmark's citizenship freeze prompted the government's decision, which aims to resolve the legislative backlog after the stalled process.
