Ryan Craig Introduced as New Head Coach of Vegas Golden Knights
Craig becomes the fifth coach in franchise history after three seasons leading Henderson, and Kelly McCrimmon says the team wanted his long-term leadership.
On Thursday, the Vegas Golden Knights introduced Ryan Craig as their fifth head coach, marking the first internal promotion in franchise history.
General Manager Kelly McCrimmon groomed Craig internally over nine years, requiring him to gain head coaching experience with the Henderson Silver Knights before his NHL promotion.
The 44-year-old Craig brings experience from nearly 200 NHL games and served as an AHL captain nine times, providing deep organizational knowledge of the players he now manages.
Replacing John Tortorella, who led the team to the Stanley Cup Final this season, Craig inherits a contender with championship expectations and McCrimmon described his leadership as "elite."
With the Golden Knights reaching the postseason in eight of their nine seasons, Craig faces immediate pressure to sustain high performance in a role with no true honeymoon phase.
