A new bill expected to be submitted to Parliament in October will impose massive restrictions on tobacco use. According to the draft, those born after January 1, 2015, will be banned from buying cigarettes for life; "slim" cigarettes will be discontinued; and smoking will be prohibited even in outdoor areas of restaurants.
The draft law, which the Ministry of Health has been working on for about a year and is planned to be submitted to the Turkish Grand National Assembly in October, envisages banning the sale of tobacco products to those born after January 1, 2015, for life, and completely ending the production and sale of tobacco products after 2040.
New bans are on the way as part of the fight against tobacco. Professor Dr. Toker Ergüder, a faculty member at the Department of Public Health, Gülhane Medical Faculty, Health Sciences University, stated that the planned new regulations include a lifetime ban on the sale of cigarettes to those born after January 1, 2015, and the creation of designated smoking areas in public spaces.
