T.N.’s first booth-less toll system becomes operational at Paranur
NHAI says the system will process about 46,500 vehicles a day and issue challans to drivers without FASTag or enough balance.
The National Highways Authority of India introduced Tamil Nadu's first Multi-Lane Free Flow system at the Paranur Toll Plaza on the Chennai-Tiruchi National Highway, becoming operational Wednesday night.
NHAI implemented MLFF-based tolling to reduce traffic congestion and enhance operational efficiency, utilizing RFID readers, radar scanners, and ANPR technology to collect tolls electronically without physical booths.
Processing around 46,500 vehicles daily, the Paranur Toll Plaza integrates FASTag-based Electronic Toll Collection with ANPR, enabling seamless passage while issuing an Electronic Notice to vehicles lacking sufficient balance.
Vehicles with exempt tags, including those of Members of Parliament and the Legislative Assembly, navigate without delay, a transition well-timed for the State's busy festive season ahead.
This initiative follows successful MLFF rollouts at the Chorayasi Toll Plaza in Gujarat and Mundka-Bakkarwala Toll Plaza in Delhi-NCR, as the National Highways Authority expands the technology across India.
NHAI Toll: Queues at toll plazas on highways will now be reduced as NHAI has launched the first Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) tolling system in Tamil Nadu.
