Nigeria: Tinubu Names Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu As Foreign Affairs Minister, Appoints Minister of State
Tinubu also nominated Sola Enikanolaiye as minister of state, while urging the new team to advance economic diplomacy and protect Nigerians abroad.
On Wednesday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointed Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as Nigeria's Minister of Foreign Affairs, replacing Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar who resigned to participate in the 2027 elections.
Before this appointment, Odumegwu-Ojukwu served as Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while Tuggar vacated the position to pursue political ambitions.
Concurrently, the President nominated Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye as the new Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, subject to Senate confirmation; Enikanolaiye brings over three decades of service with diplomatic postings in Addis Ababa, Belgrade, Ottawa, London, and New Delhi.
The President noted the appointments are "part of ongoing efforts to reposition Nigeria's foreign policy architecture for greater efficiency, strategic engagement, and stronger global partnerships."
Tinubu urged the appointees "to work diligently to promote Nigeria's national interest, advance economic diplomacy, foster regional stability, and safeguard the welfare of Nigerians at home and abroad.
