Timberwolves suffer worst playoff loss in franchise history in Game 2 drubbing
San Antonio led by 24 at halftime and emptied both benches in the final nine minutes after Minnesota lost its defensive edge.
The San Antonio Spurs dismantled the Minnesota Timberwolves 133-95 in Game 2 on Wednesday, evening the Western Conference semifinal series at 1-1.
Getting blown out in at least one playoff game has become a recurring issue for Minnesota, which has experienced similar lopsided defeats in seven consecutive playoff series.
Minnesota struggled offensively with poor shooting while a 28-13 Spurs run before halftime pushed the lead to 24; San Antonio's advantage reached 30 points in the third quarter.
With the outcome decided, Minnesota emptied the bench for the final eight minutes, deploying Kyle Anderson, Jaylen Clark, Julian Phillips, Joe Ingles, and rookie Joan Beringer.
The series shifts to Minneapolis for Game 3 on Friday, where Minnesota must recover from the blowout to regain momentum after Wednesday's loss.
