An initial investigation found the van failed to yield at a stop sign before the crash that killed three and injured four, troopers said.
- On Tuesday, a collision in Berlin Township, Knox County, killed three people and injured four others. A Ford T350 Transit Van carrying seven individuals from the Netherlands failed to yield at a stop sign, striking a Kenworth T680.
- Driver Gijs Odpam failed to yield at the intersection of State Route 13 and Yankee Street, where the Kenworth T680 operated by James S. Cline of Mount Vernon was traveling northbound. The van was heading westbound on Yankee Street when struck.
- Authorities identified the deceased as Arno Kramer, Martijn Van Vooren, and Hermanus Fortuin. All seven occupants were citizens of the Netherlands, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol investigating the incident.
- Medics transported Odpam and three remaining passengers to local hospitals for treatment. The Ohio State Highway Patrol, Knox County Coroner, and multiple fire departments assisted at the scene managing the emergency response.
- The investigation into the collision remains active. Officials have not released information regarding the condition of tractor-trailer operator Cline following the impact at the intersection of SR-13 and Yankee Street.
