Thousands of Vancouver Islanders Flock for Gander at 116th Fall Fair
Organizers said good weather helped draw about 5,000 visitors a day to the fair, which featured animals, antique equipment and museum exhibits.
From October 2 to 4, the 116th Luxton Fall Fair attracted around 5,000 daily visitors, with Metchosin Farmers' Institute president John Penner crediting exceptionally warm weather for the strong turnout.
With the fair in its 116th year and the Metchosin Farmers' Institute in its 128th, organizers showcased historical artifacts including old photographs and newspaper clippings documenting the site's evolution.
A highlight was Lucky, a Sebastopol goose, who joined numerous farmyard animals entertaining crowds alongside antique farm equipment, historic steam machinery, and the travelling midway.
To ensure the fairgrounds' future, Penner urged attendees to volunteer or join organizations like Triangle Athletics and the Vancouver Island Blacksmiths Association, which are actively welcoming new members.
Recent improvements including roof repairs and painting position the volunteer group's restoration efforts for next year's events, which may feature a Cirque du Soleil-style circus and classic car clubs.
