A small, almost deserted island off the coast of Yemen is becoming a strategic target in the escalating conflict over Iran. Perim is located in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, one of the world's most important sea lanes. If the Tehran-backed Houthis seize it, they will have a much better position to threaten shipping between the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
