This is how many cases of disease has been found in Welsh cattle
AHDB urged Welsh farmers to vaccinate as the outbreak spread across Great Britain, with 456 confirmed UK cases and disease pressure expected to peak in September.
As of August 17, the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board recorded 456 confirmed cases of Bluetongue Virus Serotype 3 across the UK, including 13 in Wales and four in Scotland.
Spread by biting midges, the viral disease impacts cattle, sheep, and other ruminants, causing potential fatalities and reduced productivity across Great Britain.
With vaccination rates under 10% of susceptible animals, NFU Livestock Board Chair for the East of England Hugh Broom urges farmers to act: "It is not too late to vaccinate."
The AHDB will host an expert-led meeting at Carmarthen Livestock Mart on Thursday, August 27, to provide practical guidance and support for affected levy payers.
Dr. Mandy Nevel, AHDB Head of Animal Health and Welfare, anticipates disease pressure could peak during September, stressing that vaccination remains the primary defense against the outbreak.
